Good coffee is good business with Amelia Hicks

EPISODE 45

Notes

On the episode today I talk to Amelia Hicks, the co-owner and co-creator of the business Old Quarter Coffee, based in Ballina NSW. Old Quarter Coffee has a Ballina-based cafe, provides a coffee subscription service for home coffee drinkers (like me!), and sells wholesale beans to cafes.

One of the reasons I have Amelia on the show is because Old Quarter Coffee is a social enterprise, and it’s so inspiring to hear her journey. The business model for Old Quarter Coffee is built around sourcing beans ethically through direct partnerships with farmers, ensuring that every cup of their coffee is doing good in the world. Their goal is to improve the lives of everyone along the supply chain, from farm to cup.

In this interview, Amelia and I talk about coffee (obviously!). We also talk about knowing your numbers in business and what it’s like to run a business for good. Amelia also shares her own journey up levelling her financial literacy, how business has been a personal development journey and her top tips for changing your money mindset.

Straight Up Bookkeeping is also turning into a business for good. We are donating and volunteering and making our business decisions through the lens of sustainability and environmental impacts. And Old Quarter Coffee is one of the businesses that really inspired us on this course.

So - I hope this conversation inspires you as well - to think about the changes you can make in the world through your business and how business can be a force for good!
