Ecommerce bookkeeping tips if you’re using Shopify and Xero

EPISODE 41

Notes

There are some common mistakes I see on a regular basis when it comes to bookkeeping for eCommerce businesses that use Shopify to sell their products. These mistakes are made by business owners and bookkeepers alike because, no matter how much knowledge or experience you might have, there is no instruction manual on how to do your Shopify bookkeeping in Xero.

In this episode, I want to cut through the noise to help you do better eCommerce bookkeeping. I’m sharing the 3 main things you should be aware of when it comes to Shopify Xero bookkeeping.

I go into detail about 2 ways to help keep your Xero sales simple - either recording payouts from payment platforms as sales or using sophisticated Xero integration software. I also discuss the importance of recording the merchant fees that Shopify charges and share 2 ways to do this manually.

I also flag the importance of checking that your GST is correct, especially if you are making overseas sales.
